Summer Utopia 2

This is an image which I considered entering for the annual See Me competition last year - See Me is "Scotland’s national campaign to end stigma and discrimination of mental ill health." I ended up choosing a simpler photograph of a strawberry on a plain white surface, as opposed to in my hand - this is also in the gallery and is entitled Summer Utopia.

I spent a year writing poetry every day (a personal challenge I set myself) and wrote this poem in 2008. It is what my Summer Utopia images were inspired by.

Gentle air
reaches in through an open window
to meet my warm skin.
Even from my reclining position
I can see summer open its eyes.
White clouds decorate a blue sky
illuminated by sunlight,
while tall trees reach narrow tops
towards dancing troupes of birds.
I enjoy a fresh, moist strawberry.
